The Twin Paddler

The Twin Paddler is a remote controlled floating vehicle. I built it out of a twice used milk-shake bottle, two NXT motors the PF IR system and a lot of assorted Technic pieces. I sat it in the bath tub for an hour and it didn't ship any water. I've run it out on the lake for a while and there doesn't seem to be any thing wrong with it. The handling is very good, it doesn't tip much, and overall I would say it is a good NXT boat. For a few more Pictures click HERE.
There isn't really any thing else to say about the Twin Paddler, so I will have to cut it short. Until next time, so long!

  1. That's awesome. Is the last picture on the other page taken from the front with the lid off, or did you cut a hole in the back?

Also, is the NXTLog working for you? Every time I click a project, it returns me to this page. I've been having the problem for almost a week.

  2. Thank you! The picture is taken with the lid off. Speaking of which, it was quite hard to fit everything into the jar. I had to design the motor assembly to be able to squeeze together and then using a spring, to expand again, kind of like the ship in a bottle thing. I regret now that I did not take pictures of the said motor assembly, but I did not have the time needed.

About NXTLog: I have encountered the same issue, but as my computer is pretty old and worn out, I thought the problem was on my end and not on that of Lego(or the people in charge of the mindstorms website.) I have also had a problem with not being able to sign in on certain LEGO sites(including NXTLog.)
    Thank's for your comment.

  3. Ah, I see. Are the Intelligent Brick and motors safe from water damage then? What about the two holes you must have drilled on the sides for the motors' axles to go through? Or is that not how you did it?

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing until one of my friends said he was having problems with it. I wonder if LEGO is aware of the situation. And if they are, why they haven't fixed it yet. Perhaps they're changing the formatting on the website... I hope it starts working again soon.

  4. Yes the NXT and the servo motors are very safe, I was surprised at how water tight it was. As I said, I left it in the bath tub for about an hour, and not a drop of water entered the jar. I sailed it on the lake for maybe 10 min. and a few drops were shipped due to the holes drilled in the sides for the paddles' axles, but that was of no consequence as the NXT is stationed at least 3/4 an inch away from the bottom of the boat.

I know for certain that they are changing something about the Lego site, the whole look is completely different. But I don't know if they are just changing the outward appearance, or the internal programing as well. It would seem as if some of the said internal programing is being updated because of the log-in and project viewing problems on NXTLog, but I don't know enough about web programming to tell.

  5. The NXTLog is back up. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there are any changes...
